What is German Dual VET System?

The Dual VET – Vocational Education and Training supports the development from learning to employment and responds to the skills needed in the labor market. People are trained in a two-factor system – theory and practical.

In Germany, the Vocational Education and Training courses last for two to four years, apprentices spend a couple of days a week, or several weeks at a time, at a vocational school (Berufsschule) where they obtain theoretical knowledge for their occupation of choice. Classes also include German, English, and social studies. At the same time, a company or public sector institution hosts the apprentices where they gain practical knowledge and hands-on experience. The apprentice usually spends 60 percent of their time in the workplace under supervision of a certified trainer and 40 percent in the classroom.

Dual VET is part of the German school system and enjoys a secure position between general education and the labor market, and is alternative to university-level education.

Why is GES following Dual VET System?

In recent years, the Philippine authorities are keen to follow the German dual vocational system. However, majority of jobs are not yet covered on their list for the vocational education. To fill this gap, GES developed and introduced in close cooperation with the German Fürstenwalder Aus- und Weiterbildungszentrum gGmbH a distinct training program following the German Standards and curriculum in the cleaning industry.

With this, GES is helping to give opportunities to people who are not able to go to university but would like to extend their knowledge and skills in a professional environment.

GES Localized Dual Vocational Education and Training

GES facilitates an in-house training for people who are interested in learning and developing new skills in housekeeping and hospitality industry. This training is certified by the German-Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry (GPCCI). GES is one of the first companies in the Philippines to work together with GPCCI in implementing the localized dual vocational education and training modeled after the German standards.

The training last for 240-hours and is administered by high-qualified trainers, both German and Filipino nationals to supervise the implementation of dual VET all throughout the training course as well as helping the trainees to fully understand the training. Training is both in English and Filipino, so knowledge in English language is a must so that the trainees can fully understand and perform the tasks at hand during the training. Both trainers are professionals in Hospitality Management and Housekeeping Department and holds a certificate to become trainers.

The training is conducted both in theory and practical. The theory part covers important lectures of the cleaning industry in a classroom environment. This is where trainees read materials, have open discussions, and learn about work planning, safety, hygiene, and other related topics. In the practical part trainees execute in a real operational process what they have learned in theory and exercise their skills.

After the training period is stipulated, the trainees will have a final examination both in theory and practical where they must prove their knowledge and skills learnt during the training. This is followed by a six (6) month on-the-job training to serve as an apprenticeship.

The training certificate is awarded once the examination and the on-the-job training are passed. Upon successfully passing, our trainees will receive an AHK Certificate for Localized Dual Vocational Training modeled after the German Standards from the German-Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry (GPCCI).

GES Professional Industrial Cleaning Course

Teaching the trainees about the modern hygienic techniques in cleaning. As well as the proper and more efficient way in cleaning certain areas of the establishment and the different materials they will encounter during the commencement of the service.

Good planning provides the best conditions for a good result, regardless of whether you are building a house or cooking a four-course meal. If wok processes are badly planned, it may be that deadlines cannot be met or that employees are put under unnecessary stress. When planning your work, the individual work steps must be put into a reasonable order. It is necessary to know what can be completed with which process and what work steps are necessary to achieve it.

This chapter points out the importance of safety instructions and precautions as well as the right way of storing and handling of cleaning devices, equipment, and detergents. It focuses in particular also on emergency and first aid measures.

On a day-to-day basis, hygiene means cleanliness. There are germs everywhere which are usually harmless. It is only when they occur on concentrated quantities or are infectious that there is a health hazard involved. In order to keep germ transition as low as possible, there are some hygiene rules which must be observed.

This chapter describes the principles and methods of cleaning as well as the use of the right devices, equipment, and detergents for various areas and materials.
